Position Vacancy Announcement
Assistant Professor
(Wildlife)

LOCATION: School of Renewable Natural Resources, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, LA

JOB DUTIES: The Louisiana State University Agricultural Center’s School of Renewable Natural Resources (RNR) and Bob R. Jones-Idlewild Research Station seek to fill a tenure-track faculty position in Wildlife Ecology at the assistant professor level. This is a 12-month appointment and has primary responsibilities in Extension, Teaching, and Research; responsibilities are allocated as 50% extension, 25% teaching, and 25% research.

This position is expected to develop a nationally-recognized, state-wide outreach program, an extramurally-funded research program, and participate in the School’s undergraduate and graduate teaching programs. The successful candidate must be proficient in the use of webinars as an outreach tool, social media, and mobile application development. Collaborations with AgCenter researchers and extension personnel; and with natural resource managers from state and federal agencies and non-governmental conservation groups are expected. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to address issues in wildlife biology with expertise in wildlife habitat management, restoration ecology, and/or wildlife/game species management, population ecology or a related discipline.

GENERAL INFORMATION: The School of Renewable Natural Resources consists of approximately 25 faculty members; 10 research, extension and teaching associates; and 6 support staff members. There are approximately 300 undergraduate students and 60 graduate students. The School has B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degree program in Renewable Natural Resources with areas of concentration in Wildlife, Forestry, Forest Products, Watershed Science and, Fisheries and Aquaculture. The Bob R. Jones-Idlewild Research Station is 1,800 acres of rolling hills and hardwood creek bottoms, located 35 miles north of campus, whose research focus is on wildlife. The station is home to a native population of white-tail deer, turkeys and other upland game birds and animals.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. degree by the position’s start date in wildlife or a natural resource-related field (e.g., zoology, biology, etc.). Preference will be given to applicants with a demonstrated publication record, grant writing ability, teaching experience, and the ability to work collaboratively with parish agents, preferred.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
