Research Associate

(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position. Funding must be available for any continuation of appointment.)

WORK LOCATION: Department of Entomology, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, LA

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Louisiana State University AgCenter, Department of Entomology is seeking applicants for a full time Research Associate position in the area of mosquito biology, surveillance, and control. This is currently a three year position, with additional years being contingent upon funding. The goal of this position is to work closely with local mosquito control districts in the state by developing and conducting applied research projects. Previous research topics have focused on Culex quinquefasciatus and Aedes albopictus biology, surveillance and control strategies. However, Louisiana’s diverse habitats and mosquito populations opens the door for numerous possibilities. Therefore, we are seeking an applicant for a full time Research Associate position to answer relevant research questions that will benefit mosquito control personnel in the state. This will include both laboratory and field based research projects. Membership to the Louisiana Mosquito Control Association (LMCA) and the American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA) will be included and maintained annually throughout the duration of this position. In addition to research responsibilities, the Research Associate will be required to write up findings and present annually at the LMCA meeting, which is held each December. Candidates must be willing to work outdoors. While a Master’s degree is not required for this position, any experience or education in the field of mosquito biology, especially relating to Culex or container Aedes is preferred. After the first year of employment, the candidate will be eligible for tuition remission (up to 6 credits per semester). Funding is immediately available for this position. This position will remain open until filled.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must have a Bachelor’s of Science degree in a related discipline (biology, entomology, zoology, microbiology, etc). A Master’s degree in a related discipline or at least 2 years’ experience working in mosquito biology and control, especially as it relates to Culex or container Aedes is preferred.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options. Benefits offered include retirement, multiple medical insurance options, supplemental insurances (dental, life, long-term disability, accident, vision, long-term care, etc.), Tax Saver Flexible Benefits Plan (saves tax dollars on some child care and medical expenses), university holidays (14 per year, typically includes a week off at Christmas), generous annual (vacation) and sick leave benefits, Employee Assistance Program, and possible educational leave and tuition exemption for coursework at campuses of the LSU System. Specific benefits depend on job category, percent effort and length of employment.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: July 10, 2017 or until suitable candidate is located.

DATE AVAILABLE: Upon completion of interview process.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Must apply online at (or through Workday for internal applicants) by attaching cover letter with resume, transcripts, curriculum vitae and contact information for three references. Paper, faxed or e-mailed application materials will not be accepted, except that in lieu of attaching recommendation letters online, they may be sent directly to:
