Title: Assistant Professor of Plant Pathology. The Department of Plant Pathology in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Davis is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Plant Pathology. This is an academic year (9-month), Assistant Professor tenure-track position with teaching, research, outreach/engagement and service responsibilities, and includes the expectation of fundamental research, as well as translational research and outreach relevant to the mission of the California Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) (

Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent, productive and competitively funded research program in fundamental and/or applied plant pathology. All areas of research of direct relevance to the discipline of plant pathology will be considered. Those with a background in interdisciplinary research, especially research that addresses an emerging area(s) of direct relevance to plant health and disease, are encouraged to apply. Candidates able to integrate hypothesis-driven laboratory research with studies conducted in agricultural and/or natural environments are especially desirable. The appointee will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate level in courses supporting the Department of Plant Pathology and the Global Disease Biology major, and at the graduate level supporting the graduate program in Plant Pathology. This position will play a key role in plant pathology education through instruction in Introduction to Plant Pathology, PLP 120. Additional courses will be assigned based o n the candidate’s area of expertise. Sample courses include Advanced Plant Pathology, Field Plant Pathology, Plant-Microbe Interactions, Plant Virology, Plant Bacteriology, Disease Intervention and Policy, Epidemiology, and Disease and Society. Mentoring of graduate students, undergraduate student advising, curricular development, participation in and development of outreach programs, and performance of departmental and university service is expected. The successful candidate will be an active member of the Plant Pathology Graduate Program and other graduate groups as appropriate to the appointee’s interests and expertise. The incumbent will be expected also to support the mission of plant pathology in the AES through teaching, outreach and research that is relevant to disease problems affecting agriculture and/or natural resources in California.

Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in plant pathology, plant biology, microbiology, virology, mycology, bacteriology, epidemiology, or other closely related field. Post-doctoral experience is preferred. Evidence of research excellence is expected. The candidate should have the ability to develop and instruct undergraduate and graduate courses and the ability to develop and conduct extramurally funded research in virology.

Salary: Commensurate with experience within the Assistant Professor rank at the University of California.
