The Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences in the College of Agriculture at Auburn University seeks dynamic and innovative applicants for the position of Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist - Soil Health. This position will be a twelve-month, tenure-track position with 75% extension and 25% research appointment. The projected start date is January 2025.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will develop and maintain an impactful research and extension program focused on promoting the role of soil as an ecosystem that sustains crop production. This research and extension program has a long history of providing solutions for regenerative agricultural practices in Alabama using soil amendments, crop rotation, cover crops, and conservation tillage.
The person in this position should provide leadership in soil health, soil conservation, and soil fertility programming, supported by faculty and extension agents from Auburn University and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. Responsibilities include conducting in-service training for extension agents, as well as developing written, web-based, and social media materials for producers and other key stakeholders. They will be expected to provide on-site and in-field diagnostics to address soil management issues. Additionally, the person in this role will advise and mentor graduate students to support their applied research program. The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with scientists at the USDA-ARS National Soil Dynamics Lab in Auburn, AL, the Auburn University Soil, Forage, and Water Testing Laboratory, and the Alabama Natural Resource Conservation Service.
