The Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences in the College of Agriculture at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Professor-Cropping Systems Extension Agronomist. This faculty position will be a twelve-month, tenure-track position with a 75% extension and 25% research appointment. The projected start date is January 1, 2019.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing an innovative and impactful Extension program in all areas of cotton agronomics. This would include training and providing educational materials to Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s regional agents. This individual would also be responsible for conducting in-field diagnostics for trouble shooting situations, as well as diagnostics via phone, electronic images, and submitted plant samples. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting an applied research program in cotton agronomics with the focus of evaluating new cotton cultivars with the new technology traits and their response to planting date, timing of PGR’s, fertility management, timing of defoliants and harvest methodology. The successful candidate will be expected to fill the role of activities leader for the Cotton Team and other AU College of Agriculture faculty with Extension appointments working in cotton production. A critical component of this position is industry support, which is comprised of producers, ginners, agricultural chemical industry, consultants, fertilizer/nutrient suppliers and seed suppliers.

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in agronomy, crop science, soil science, plant physiology, or similar related fields at the time employment begins. Documented evidence of individual and/or collaborative research in crop science or agronomy resulting in peer-reviewed publications is required. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues across disciplines and develop a collaborative research and Extension program. The successful candidate must possess excellent written and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse audiences. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and to continue working legally for the term of employment. Desirable qualifications: post graduate experience in cropping systems.
