Assistant Professor
(Bio-Mechanical Engineering/Tenure-track)

WORK LOCATION: Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, La. This position is a joint position between the LSU Agricultural Center and the LSU A&M campus.

LSU has a many academic achievements, including: ranking 8th in the nation for producing the highest number of medical school applicants, one of the three universities in the world to undertake groundbreaking research on Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO; also awarded a Noble Prize in 2017), and LSU AgCenter Intellectual Property Office being ranked among the top research universities in the country for the highest royalty return on investment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The LSU Agricultural Center and the LSU A&M Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department is seeking a faculty member to develop a research and teaching program in biological engineering. Research in this area is interdisciplinary and engineering expertise will be sought to provide core depth of expertise in bio-mechanical engineering. This is an academic, tenure-track position, 60% Research (LSU AgCenter)/40% Instruction (LSU A&M) as a joint hire.

The faculty member is expected to possess superior communication and organizational skills, and will be expected to: develop graduate and senior level undergraduate courses in biological engineering; teach core courses in the undergraduate curriculum such as mechanical design for biological engineering and instrumentation; direct graduate and undergraduate students, offer bio-mechanical guidance to senior design projects needing such assistance; and obtain extramural funding. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with training and experience. Anticipated hire date is August 15, 2018. An offer of employment is contingent on a satisfactory pre-employment background check.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Earned Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, biological engineering, biomedical engineering, agricultural engineering, chemical engineering or related engineering discipline; emphasis, course work, and/or experience in bio-mechanical, bio-medical, bio-processing or bio-environmental engineering (collectively referred as bio-areas). Ability to teach core courses in the undergraduate engineering curriculum such as mechanical design for biological engineering and instrumentation. Ability to offer bio-mechanical guidance to senior design students and develop a research program in one of the above bio- areas.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED: Professional Engineering registration or ability to obtain a PE; ability to effectively communicate (written, oral, web, video, etc.) to varied audiences of different educational backgrounds at LSU and its clientele groups; ability to act in a professional manner as a representative of LSU; hands-on experience with prototype fabrication and application of concepts from bio-areas to engineering fields; and ability to develop senior and graduate-level elective courses in bio-mechanical engineering. Experience as a post-doctoral researcher and peer-reviewed publications are viewed favorably.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
