The Auburn University ( www.auburn.edu) College of Agriculture’s Department of Poultry Science is seeking candidates for a non-tenure track (NTT) position of Assistant Research Professor - Post-Harvest Poultry Food Safety. This NTT faculty position is a full-time, twelve-month, research appointments, renewable annually contingent upon satisfactory performance and funding. The position is eligible for benefits, including health insurance.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for developing an independent research program on post-harvest poultry food safety to broadly address one of the following objectives:
- Characterization of the microbiome of commercial poultry processing facilities to understand how bacterial populations in the processing plant affect the microbial population on processed poultry meat. Special emphasis will be placed on associations between Salmonella and Campylobacter in the processing environment microbiome and their contamination of meat processed in the facility.
- Evaluation of the efficacy of antimicrobials to reduce the load of Salmonella and Campylobacter on broiler carcasses when applied individually and in combination during the broiler processing steps of reception, scalding, defeathering, evisceration, chilling, and/or deboning.
In addition, the successful candidate will mentor poultry science graduate and undergraduate students, engage in scholarship that results in peer-reviewed publications, and secure extramural funding to support their research program from sources such as USDA-NIFA, NSF, and other competitive programs, as well as from relevant industries in Alabama and across the country. The position does not involve a teaching appointment; however, successful candidate may develop and teach courses per their interest.
