Information about the College/Unit:

The Feed the Future Innovation Lab for the Reduction of Post-Harvest Loss (PHLIL) is a strategic, applied, research and education program aimed at improving food security by reducing post-harvest loss in stored product crops, such as grains, oilseeds, legumes and seeds. The program is housed in the College of Agriculture at Kansas State University.

PHLIL’s efforts are currently focused in six Feed the Future countries: Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guatemala, Honduras and Nepal. Through collaborations between U.S. universities and local universities, research institutions and other partner organizations, PHLIL is conducting research, testing and outreach related to drying, storage and mycotoxin detection for these key crops. Our work seeks to increase understanding of current post-harvest loss factors and task division in rural communities and households and works toward the development of technologies usable by all household members.

The Feed the Future Innovation Lab for the Reduction of Post-Harvest Loss is part of the U.S. Government’s Feed the Future initiative to reduce global hunger and improve food security. The initiative uses research, education and outreach to advance solutions to hunger, poverty, and under-nutrition in low-income countries. Learn more at www.feedthefuture.gov.

The position provides vital assistance to the Lab Director and management entity (ME) team with respect to operational matters in the implementation of the overall program. The primary responsibility of the Program Administrator (PA) is to assist the ME and Lab-associated faculty and collaborators to assure that the ME remains mission-focused and achieves the program’s intended research and engagement outcomes. This responsibility includes a strong role in overall tracking of the program’s broad set of reporting and other day-to-day operational issues, as well as involvement in developing proposals for additional program activities. The PA will engage in continuous monitoring of project implementation against agreed upon deliverables, anticipating and helping to manage activities and outputs related to donor and institutional delivery, ensuring program compliance with USAID requirements. The PA will serve as the first point of contact for most routine requests from program partners and other parties.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, agriculture, or related field.
Excellent organizational and data management skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office, including creating and using spreadsheets.
Capability to be proactive and productive in a fast-paced environment, sourcing relevant input from appropriate sources and identifying innovative solutions to problems.

Experience monitoring international research project portfolio(s) supported by USAID or other development donor funding.
Master’s degree in business administration, management, agriculture, or related field.
Demonstrated experience with grant writing and/or monitoring and evaluation.

Proven ability and commitment to work across multiple cultural environments.
Commitment to expanding and fostering diversity and working with multi-cultural research teams.
