POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position through December 2027. Continuation will be dependent on funding, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)

Work Location: School of Renewable Natural Resources, LSU Agricultural Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Position Description: An inter-disciplinary team based at the LSU AgCenter and the University of Alabama is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to address pressing questions regarding the effects of seasonal hydrologic conditions, soil type, and stand density on tree stress and mortality in a bottomland hardwood system(s) in east central Louisiana. The postdoctoral researcher will collaboratively develop and implement projects aimed at understanding the environmental and biological factors that influence the growth and mortality of trees in wetland forests. Approaches could vary and may include tree-ring analyses to quantify growth in response to historic drought events, remote sensing analyses to assess historic temporal and spatial variability of tree mortality, and/or developing hydrologic models of shallow groundwater and seasonal surface flooding with the system.

Qualifications Requirements: A doctoral degree focused on forested wetland systems, wetland hydrology, wetland ecology, forest ecology, management and/or conservation, or related fields are required. A proven ability and desire to publish in peer-reviewed journals is also required. Competitive candidates will also have experience with tree-ring analyses, multi-spectral remote sensing analyses, and strong competency implementing spatial analyses. Additionally preferred qualifications include extensive relevant field experience and demonstrated leadership working with multiple collaborators.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options, including retirement, multiple medical insurance options, supplemental insurances (dental, life, long-term disability, accident, vision, long-term care, etc.), Tax Saver Flexible Benefits Plan (saves tax dollars on some child care and medical expenses), university holidays (14 per year, typically includes a week off at Christmas), generous annual (vacation) and sick leave benefits, Employee Assistance Program, and possible educational leave and tuition exemption for coursework at campuses of the LSU System. Specific benefits depend on job category, percent effort and length of employment.

Date Available: Upon completion of interview process.

Application Deadline: December 12, 2025, or until suitable candidate is located.

Application Procedure: Apply online at https://lsu.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/LSU (or through Workday for internal applicants) by attaching files containing a letter of application, curriculum vita, official university transcripts, and three letters of reference. Paper, faxed or e-mailed application materials will not be accepted, except that in lieu of attaching the reference letters online, they may be sent directly to:
