The incumbent will provide leadership in coordinating food safety educational programs, events and activities that will enhance profitability, sustain growth, and increase the profit of small and limited-resource farmers and farm families in Mississippi.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal food safety regulations.
- Knowledge of business and management principles.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and training skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Computer skills, including data management.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products, email, and internet
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
Essential Job Functions
- Collaborate with other food safety professionals, agricultural extension agents, government agencies, industry organizations, and academic institutions to share knowledge, resources, and expertise to develop and implement collaborative initiatives and projects.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure adherence to food safety standards and protocols.
- Develop, implement, and maintain food safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Develop training materials and conduct workshops to enhance staff awareness of food safety
- Prepare and review documentation for food safety certifications.
- Identify potential risks associated with produce safety in the production, harvesting, handling, and transportation processes, and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
- Train employees in food safety practices, hygiene, and sanitation protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of educational programs, training sessions, audits, food safety inspections.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and outreach efforts and produce safety interventions, gathering stakeholder feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.
- Submit a proposal for additional funding to secure funding to expand the Farm Management and Food Safety Program Area.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and national food safety regulations, codes, and standards established by agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), safety laws and regulations to maintain regulatory compliance.

Qualifications
- A master’s degree in agriculture economics or agribusiness or related field is required.
- 2-5 years of food safety experience, education, and training
