Oregon State University
Search for the Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences
Corvallis, Oregon

Oregon State University (OSU), an internationally recognized, innovative, and mission-driven land-grant and research university, seeks an inspiring, collaborative, and entrepreneurial leader to serve as Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS). The Dean is a highly visible and influential leader in the State of Oregon and the College is Oregon’s principal source of knowledge relating to agricultural and food systems, and a leader in the study of natural resources, life sciences, environmental quality, and rural economies. The Oregon State Agriculture and Forestry programs are ranked among the top in the world by QS World University Rankings, and the impacts are felt throughout the state, the nation, and the world. The next Dean will build on the College’s momentum and help propel the university towards its goal of becoming one of the top land grant universities in the nation.

It is an exciting time to join Oregon State University. The university continues to climb the excellence ladder, keeping a clear focus on valuing student success, advancing and disseminating knowledge, and serving the people and the state of Oregon. With campuses in Corvallis, Bend, and Newport, OSU is one of only two universities in the country to hold the Land, Sea, Space and Sun Grant designations and is the state’s only institution to hold both the Carnegie Foundation’s top designation for research institutions and its prestigious Community Engagement classification.

The College of Agricultural Sciences plays a significant role both in honoring the university’s land grant mission and in advancing the university’s goal to address the grand challenges of our time. The Dean will build on the college’s strong legacy of research, teaching, and extension while also developing an innovative and forward-looking vision for agricultural sciences education in the 21st century. The Dean will lead a group of exceptional faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders to further prominence in advancing research, increasing student success, and meeting the needs of communities across the State of Oregon and beyond.

The successful Dean will be a visionary and collaborative leader prepared to serve as a visible and vocal advocate and spokesperson for the College of Agricultural Sciences, Extension, and the college’s external partners across the State. They will engage the college’s internal and external stakeholders with the goal of cohesion and identifying a common purpose, possess the ability to advance excellence in the fields within the college, and build and grow mutually beneficial partnerships across the State of Oregon, the country, and the world. To achieve these goals, the Dean will need to address the following opportunities and challenges that are central to the college’s future success:

Create a compelling narrative that positions CAS as one of the premier land-grant colleges for the 21st Century
Lead resource generation and management efforts for the college
Recruit, retain, and develop excellent research, teaching, and extension faculty and staff
Improve access, increase enrollment, and create new academic programs to sustain the future of agricultural sciences in Oregon and beyond
Nurture and expand stakeholder relations and industry partnerships that provide support to CAS
Foster collaborations across the college’s departments and with other OSU colleges to further serve Oregonians and society at large
