The School of Integrative Plant Science (SIPS) in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at Cornell University is seeking applicants for a 9-month, tenure-track position with 50% research and 50% teaching responsibilities at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor. The successful candidate will affiliate with one of the sections in SIPS and is expected to develop a strong, extramurally-funded research program to improve cropping systems and alleviate crop production constraints to food security in developing countries. The successful individual is expected to accomplish significant and innovative research through a collaborative multi-investigator and international research program in sustainable and ecological intensification of food systems. Such a systems approach may include but is not limited to management systems that improve soil health, water use, resilience to climate change, nutrient acquisition, production of nutritious food, agrobiodiversity, and the livelihoods of farmers while sustaining or improving the environment. The developed systems should link agricultural production to improved human nutritional outcomes and livelihoods. Work will seek to achieve breakthroughs in programs such as sustainable and ecological intensification and approaches that rely on improving and sustaining soil-plant-human system health. The successful candidate will develop interdisciplinary courses in tropical cropping systems, international agriculture and food systems, provide leadership in Cornell’s international programs, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related disciplines. The candidate should enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural setting. Well-qualified applicants are expected to have a distinguished record of academic accomplishments in international agriculture, including demonstrated skills in teaching, quantitative research methods, demonstrated success in program support through acquisition of external funds, and a strong network within the international development research community.

ANTICIPATED START DATE: August 1, 2018 or as negotiated.

ACADEMIC RANK AND SALARY: Assistant/Associate Professor (tenure track) with salary competitive with peer institutions and commensurate with background and experience.
