The Department of Crop Sciences, in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking to fill a teaching position at either the Instructor or Lecturer level. This Specialized Faculty position will be responsible for instruction of two to four classes per semester (Fall and Spring) plus an additional summer online course. This position will be primarily teaching 100-level courses with an opportunity for developing new courses. Courses may include HORT 100 – Introduction to Horticulture, HORT 105 – Vegetable Gardening, and CPSC 112 – Introduction to Crop Sciences. The Instructor/Lecturer will be responsible for lecture and laboratory sections associated with these classes. Mentoring, coordinating and supervising teaching assistants will be required. The ideal candidate will be committed to actively engaging students and to revising courses to maintain or increase their appeal. The position may include involvement in undergraduate student activities such as Horticulture Club and others as appropriate.
This position requires a Master’s Degree with at least one degree (B.S. or M.S.) in Horticulture, Crop Sciences, Botany or related field for the Instructor level. A PhD in Horticulture, Crop Sciences, Botany or related field is required for Lecturer level. The successful candidate must have experience teaching at a higher educational institution and demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills. Preferred qualifications include experience in developing and revising courses including lab courses; commitment to utilizing best practices for creating an interactive, student-centered learning environment; and experience with developing and instructing online courses. This position will be a 100% time, twelve-month appointment. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package. The position is expected to start August 16, 2018.
