The successful candidate will execute basic research exploring gut microbiota, fundamental stress responses of leading foodborne pathogens (e.g., Campylobacter jejuni, Salmonella), Campylobacter virulence, bacterial biofilm, quorum sensing, bacterial typing, and the roles of new/unknown genetic elements identified through genome sequencing. The candidate will work closely with Dr. Xiaonan Lu (Associate Professor in Food Science) and graduate students, and will be involved in collaborative work with different research laboratories on UBC Vancouver campus. The appointment will be for 1 year with the possibility of extension for 2 more years. Candidates with demonstrated contributions relating to genome sequencing, transcriptomics, and/or molecular manipulation (e.g., cloning, generation of knockouts, etc.) are encouraged to apply. Candidates are responsible for training graduate students for the basic molecular techniques. Areas of research interest may include, but are not limited to pathogen biology, epidemiology, and risk assessment that result in detection, control and/or prevention of foodborne pathogens within food production systems.
