    Job Summary


    The College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences is seeking to hire a postdoctoral research associate who has recently been awarded a Ph.D. The incumbent with conduct team and independent research in swine/animal nutrition.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities



    • Knowledge: The successful incumbent will have broad knowledge of animal development, physiology, pathology, and nutrition. The incumbent will oversee federally funded projects focusing on swine nutrition (performance and nutrient utilization) and microbiology.

    • Skills: The incumbent will be experienced in the extraction and purification of large molecules such as DNARNA, and protein. The incumbent will be able to use advanced molecular techniques such as PCR, reverse transcriptase PCR, real-time PCRELISA, and other contemporary procedures. The incumbent is able to use chemical and biochemical methods for the analysis of swine products, specifically meat quality and animal feed.

    • Abilities: The incumbent has excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrates ability to work cooperatively with other faculty, students, and industry-professionals. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for mentoring and training graduate students and contributing to proposal writing efforts. The incumbent is able to conduct experiments, analyzing data, preparing timely reports, and submitting manuscripts for both project documentation and peer-reviewed publications.


    Essential Job Functions



    • Designs and conducts swine nutritional studies.

    • Assist Principal Investigator (PI) with the development and implementation of research projects involving swine nutrition studies, molecular and microbiology and/or meat quality.

    • Prepares manuscripts and publishes peer-reviewed journals.

    • Makes presentations and attends professional conferences.

    • Mentors graduate and undergraduate students.

    • Actively seeks grants to support swine research.

    • Other related duties as assigned.


    Qualifications



    • Ph.D. in Swine/Animal nutrition or closely related field.

    • 2 years of experience working with livestock especially swine, feed formulation, microbiology, and molecular biology.

    • Minimum of three (3) peer-reviewed publications in a reputable journal.
