    WORK LOCATION: Scott Research and Extension Center, LSU Agricultural Center, Winnsboro, Louisiana

    POSITION DESCRIPTION: The candidate will be required to cooperate with agricultural and natural resources (ANR) faculty and staff to support the mission and overall goals of the LSU AgCenter. This position will be responsible for coordinating all efforts in the application of statewide Precision Agriculture Education programs within the LSU AgCenter’s Cooperative Extension Service. Specific duties will include developing materials and directing training opportunities (though parish and regional extension agents) to facilitate agricultural producers education on the use of precision agricultural technologies, site-specific data collection and interpretation, and prescription applications of crop production inputs. This position also keeps AgCenter employees updated on the availability of novel precision agricultural technologies as they are made available and serve as the state liaison for education, funding, and technology transfer from private and public agencies. The education program should include traditional information transfer through oral presentations, technical publications, fact sheets, e-learning modules, and training videos. Novel delivery mechanisms for interaction and rapid communication should occur with electronic and social media. Educational materials should address best management practices (BMPs) for environmental stewardship, and support Master Farmer certification training. This position must be able to work cooperatively with Precision Agriculture Educators in other states, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry. The job will occasionally require overnight travel to Baton Rouge, LA, other state production regions, and to regional /national conferences to support the activities of this program.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The position requires a Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in agronomy, agricultural or natural sciences - related fields and at least two years of experience working with GIS or precision agricultural technologies. Demonstrated proficiency in the ESRI suite of GIS software (ArcGIS) and precision agriculture software (Farmworks, SST, SMS Advanced) will be considered valuable skills. Previous farming, agricultural research / extension, or agricultural industry experience is highly desirable. The ability to work with others in a team-oriented environment is essential.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and be based upon either a partial or full (100$) appointment. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
