    POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
    RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

    This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position. Funding must be available for any continuation of appointment.

    Work Location: Domiciled at the Dean Lee Research Station, Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, Alexandria, Louisiana with state-wide responsibilities for research project support.

    Nature of Work: Assist with coordination of research projects for corn, cotton, grain sorghum, soybean, and wheat in the area of weed management. The successful applicant will focus their work efforts at the Dean Lee Research Station, but some travel will be required to off-station field sites. The applicant should have some working knowledge of agronomic crop production. Duties will involve: data collection, soil sampling, record keeping, scouting fields, spraying, planting and harvesting of research plots, and maintenance of agricultural equipment used in the program. Equipment usage and maintenance will include: four-wheelers, trailers, weigh wagons, tractors and sprayers. The ability to operate farm equipment is preferred. A good driving record is mandatory. The applicant should be proficient in Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook email and other applicable programs. The successful candidate will be expected to develop collaborative relationships with station faculty, crop specialists, staff, county agents, and agribusiness representatives.

    Qualification Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in weed science, agronomy, plant science, general agriculture, or other agriculture-related field of study. Experience in precision farming is highly desirable, but not necessary. Experience in agricultural research, a basic knowledge of crop production and farming practices, and proficiency in computer applications are essentials. Candidates with non-agricultural degrees may be considered depending on other experience.

    Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
