Title: Professor and Head

Department of Entomology, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, invites nominations and applications for the position of Professor and Head.

Applications will be accepted through January 15, 2010 or until a suitable candidate is selected.

Position is available June 1, 2010.

Duties and Responsibilities: The Department Head holds the academic appointment of Professor in Entomology. The successful candidate will provide administrative direction for scholarship in Departmental teaching, research, extension and regulatory activities.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

(1) provide intellectual and philosophical leadership of Faculty, Staff and students for integrated academic, research and extension programs and with expanding international activities; (2) manage and coordinate Departmental human, fiscal and physical resources; (3) serve as primary advocate for the Department to the administration in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and The Texas A&M University System agencies and lead in the development of innovative joint ventures with other academic units; (4) provide leadership for statewide entomological programs of Texas AgriLife Research and the Texas AgriLife Extension Service; (5) represent the Department to commodity groups, state and federal agencies, other partners and collaborators; and, (6) provide leadership for continued acquisition of internal and external resources.

Qualifications Required:
•     Ph.D. in Entomology or closely related field
•     An academic record of distinction in Entomology, with experience in teaching, research and/or extension, in a university environment
•     Demonstrated effectiveness in administration
•     Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
•     Demonstrated commitment to diversity
•     Capability for leadership and management of multidisciplinary programs

Desired attributes include prior administrative experience in the Land Grant College system; experience with recruiting, mentoring and retention of a diverse cadre of Faculty, Staff and students; ability to forge and enhance linkages with state and federal agencies, foundations and industry stakeholders; support of Faculty governance, in establishing Program priorities and plans; evidence of collaboration and team-building, within and across Departmental and disciplinary lines; evidence of leadership, in building consensus and managing groups of professionals; purposeful and intentional engagement of Faculty, Staff, students and stakeholders, to accomplish the mission and goals of the Department, University and profession; and, knowledge and experience in leading international programs.
