WORK LOCATION: Central Research Station, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position provides coordination of greenhouse facilities relative to research and teaching functions of those departments requiring such services. The incumbent must have solid understanding of research techniques, the ability to coordinate and assist with scientific experimentation, ability to manage in a manner that maximizes teaching and research effectiveness, and the expertise in managing a greenhouse complex.
Responsibilities are to provide day-to-day management of greenhouse facilities that include glass houses, repair shop, head houses, and storage buildings in support of research and teaching functions. Management of these facilities will require the coordination of maintenance and repair, allocation of teaching and research space, and related duties in a research setting. Responsibilities also include purchasing of supplies and equipment, maintaining supplies and equipment inventories, grounds maintenance, infrastructure maintenance, small equipment maintenance and repair, budget management, and supervision of one employee. This position answers to the Resident Director of Central Research Station but will be expected to interact with faculty, graduate students, and staff in all departments requiring greenhouse services. This position will also work closely with other research associates and staff at Central Research Station.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in plant science, horticulture, or closely related field. Other degrees may be accepted if combined with directly related experience.
