The Department of Animal Science at the University of Vermont invites applications for 2 Tenure-track Faculty Positions, to begin August 2010.
Ruminant Nutrition: This is a 9 month, tenure-track, research and teaching position. Responsibilities include teaching an Introductory Nutrition and Feeds course, focusing on Ruminant and Monogastric Domestic Animals, contributing to Upper or Graduate level courses and advising Undergraduate and Graduate Students. University service is also expected. The appointee will be required to develop a funded, innovative Research Program and will be encouraged to collaborate with colleagues, within and outside the Department, to strengthen national and Vermont dairy issues. Research focused on Dairy Cattle is preferred. Hiring is expected at the Assistant/Associate Professor level. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Dairy or Animal Science or a closely related discipline and demonstrated ability or strong potential in research and teaching. Appointment type, rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications. Commitment to diversity and inclusion required.
Animal Health: This is a 9 month, tenure-track, research and teaching position. Responsibilities include teaching and course development to expand Upper level Undergraduate and Graduate level course opportunities in the area of Animal Health, including Microbial Pathogenesis, Global Animal Health and Livestock Production, Veterinary Public Health and Zoonotic Disease. Advising Undergraduate and Graduate Students and University service is also expected. The appointee will be required to develop a funded, innovative Research Program in Animal Health, preferably with a focus on Diseases of Dairy Cattle and Infectious Disease Epidemiology and will be encouraged to collaborate with colleagues, within and outside the Department, to strengthen research work in the area of Bovine Mastitis Epidemiology and Control. Research that encompasses studies on the molecular basis of disease, host-pathogen interactions and population level studies of disease control, is preferred. Hiring is expected at the Assistant Professor level. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Epidemiology, Dairy or Animal Science or a closely related discipline and demonstrated ability or strong potential in research and teaching. Commitment to diversity and inclusion required. Postdoctoral experience is highly desired.
The Department of Animal Science has approximately 270 Undergraduate Students in four Concentrations of study: Pre-veterinary, Equine, Dairy and General Animal Science. The Department currently has 12 Graduate Students and offers an M.S. Degree Program, as well as an integrated Animal, Nutrition & Food Science Ph.D. Program. Departmental research is focused on Lactation and Mammary Gland Biology and utilizes the Miller Dairy Research Unit on campus. There is also strong opportunity to collaborate with the W.H. Miner Agricultural Institute, in nearby Chazy, NY.
