Essential Job Duties

The NCSU Weed Biology and Ecology Laboratory studies how weeds respond to disturbance in agricultural and non-agricultural systems. Our approach focuses on integration of ecological and agricultural principles as well as conventional and innovative weed control tools.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scholar to explore and identify biochemical pathways that can be used to reduce the survival, fitness, and weediness of weed species using new technologies including proteolysis-targeting chimera (PROTAC) and RNAi.

The postdoc will be part of an interdisciplinary group, so the incumbent will have the opportunity to experience how laboratory efforts connect with field conditions and vice-versa. The postdoc will meet frequently with supervisor to discuss best practices in grant writing, manuscript preparation, and mentoring.

Other Work/Responsibilities

The candidate will supervise the work of graduate and undergraduate students and will help to maintain inventories and compliance with university safety regulations. Although the majority of the work will be under laboratory and greenhouse conditions, the postdoc will be expected to participate in field activities with other members of the team.

Minimum Experience/Education

Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., M.D., D.V.M., Sc.D.) in appropriate field awarded no more than five (5) years from initial date of postdoctoral appointment.

Departmental Required Skills

PhD in Agronomy, Crop Science, Plant Biology, Genetics, or Biological Sciences or a related field.
PhD awarded no more than five (5) years from initial date of postdoctoral appointment. Extensive experience in plant transformation, genetics,and physiology.
Strong written and oral communication skills, be self-motivated and possess leadership skills.
Capacity to conduct research under field and greenhouse conditions independently. Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Experience,
Skills, Training/EducationExperience with plant transformation techniques, such as ballistic and gene editing (CRISPR-Cas9) is critical.
Experience studying plant growth and behavior under field conditions is desirable.

Required License or Certification
Valid NC Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one in 60 days of hire. Must be maintained.
Valid Pest Applicator License or the ability to obtain one within 60 days or hire.
