Job Description Summary
The Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences in the College of Agriculture at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Professor-Grain Crops Extension Agronomist. This faculty position will be a twelve-month, tenure-track position with a 75% Extension and 25% research appointment.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering a nationally recognized dynamic, impactful, and innovative Extension program that focuses on grain crops agronomics and management systems. The individual in this position will also be responsible for educating the community at large on the impact and importance of grain crop production on feeding society. The individual in this position will be expected to work closely and cooperatively with other crop and soil scientists in the department, as well as other scientists and Extension specialists working within grain crops. This individual will also be responsible for conducting diagnostics in the field and via phone, electronic images, and submitted plant samples. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting an applied research program in grain crops agronomics and production management. Primary crop responsibilities will include corn, wheat and soybean. This individual will also be responsible for Extension and applied research programming on other crops to include, but not limited to, grain sorghum, rye, oats and barley. The research will be focused on evaluation of cutting-edge management practices to increase profitability and sustainability of agriculture in the Southeast. This individual will be expected to collaborate with other Extension specialists, scientists, agricultural engineers, regional Extension agents, and industry partners.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. from in Agronomy, Crop Science, or closely related field, and three years of experience (post-Ph.D.) in the same or similar position (“Similar” must include research/studies on soil and crop management practices of a minimum of 2 grain crops (soybean, maize, grain sorghum, and/or rye). Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues across disciplines and develop a collaborative research and Extension program. The successful candidate must possess excellent written and interpersonal skills to effectively interact and communicate with diverse audiences. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and to continue working legally for the term of employment.
