Overview

The Office of the Vice Provost for Innovation (OVPI) is responsible for harnessing the innovative power of the Tufts community to develop strategic and new business opportunities for research, scholarship and education. The primary mission is to provide business development services for the University and includes key efforts focused on Innovation Community and Brand Development, Network Development (Internal & External), Innovation Infrastructure (Physical and Digital), Global Initiatives and International Strategy, Online, Hybrid, and Life-long Learning and other advisory services.


What You'll Do

There are 3 positions avaiable. 

 

The Entrepreneur in Residence, Research and Development is responsible for leading the commercial development of technologies in the Tufts University-affiliated Cellular Agriculture Development Laboratory. Works closely with the academic faculty at the university to identify, de-risk, and advance proof-of-concept technologies deemed to have strong potential for commercial success in the field of cellular agriculture and cultured meat. Responsible for developing and implementing strategies for commercializing these technologies while managing the technical, financial and administrative aspects of the laboratory. 

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Works with Tufts faculty to identify intellectual property (IP) for commercialization and creates technical
    roadmaps
  • Leads the scientific discovery efforts of the Cellular Agriculture Development Laboratory, including developing novel cellular agriculture technologies as well as enabling research tools and capacities
  • Leads and coordinates research and development to de-risk cell-cultured meat technologies at the Cellular Agriculture Development Laboratory
  • Develops and implements strategies for organizational efficiency and success
  • Works with external partners (e.g., industry, other academics, government organizations) to advance the laboratory’s efforts
  • Communicates the laboratory’s mission, objectives and progress to external stakeholders (e.g., investors, the media, strategic partners, general public)
  • Leads the management team and provides guidance and support to staff


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

  • Knowledge and skills as typically acquired through completion of a PhD in a field relevant to cell-cultured meat and cellular agriculture, such as biology, biotechnology, or food science
  • Extensive experience in research and development, with a focus on cell-cultured meat technologies
  • Strong leadership skills and experience developing and managing research projects
  • Excellent communication (written, technical, and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with academic faculty and external partners
  • Experience in developing novel intellectual property (IP) and enabling research capacities

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in industry (or in commercializing research) is a plus


Pay Range

Minimum $161,300.00, Midpoint $201,650.00, Maximum $242,000.00
 

Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
