(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position. Continuation will be dependent on funding, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)
Work Location: Rice Research Station, Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, Crowley, Louisiana.
Responsibilities: Help conduct and coordinate plant breeding and genetics research in rice. Duties include management of seed inventory, preparation of seed for experiments, collection and management of large data sets, field work, and administrative responsibilities such as preparation of reports, management of inventory, supplies, ordering, shipping, and detailed record keeping. The position will also include responsibility for supervision and training of certain personnel and graduate students, as well as participation in outreach activities. At times, this position requires working over 40 hours per week – coming in early and/or leaving late and some weekends.
Qualification Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in agriculture or a degree curriculum that includes general biology coursework in biological sciences or agriculture from an accredited college or university. Other degrees may be accepted with experience or education related to job duties. Successful candidate must be very organized, have strong problem-solving skills, and be self-motivated and capable of working independently and in teams. Must have demonstrated ability with scientific writing and/or proofreading, development of presentations and reports, and strong communication and interpersonal skills. Experience entering data into and working with databases and strong familiarity with Microsoft Office and other general computer skills required. Ability to work in the field in wet and hot conditions to collect data and hand harvest rice.
