Work Location: LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens at Burden. Baton Rouge, LA, 70809
Position Description: The individual will report to the Director of the Botanic Gardens and be expected to perform a variety of duties as a research associate at the Botanic Gardens with an emphasis on roses. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Experience in translating oral and written directions. Experience in observation and paying close attention to detail. Familiarity with pesticides and pesticide safety. Strong track record of reliably delivering on-time results. Strong interpersonal skills. Willing to work in a group of diverse people while supporting team members to meet team objectives. As appropriate, possess the ability to work independently. Must have experience with computer programs, such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Must be familiar with and interest in conducting greenhouse, controlled environment chamber, and/or field trials. Must be able to work some nights and weekends.
These duties include:

conducting research in plant propagation and production
-
experimental design and setup; data collection, analysis and generation of reports using various data software applications; ability to present summary of technical results

assisting with trial programs
-
assisting with plant production projects and landscape maintenance
-
supervision of student employees
Qualification Requirements: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a field of agriculture. A master’s degree is preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with a degree in horticulture or a related field. Also prefer additional training in propagation and plant production with experience conducting research related projects.
