Instructor or Tenure Track Assistant Professor
(Volunteer and Youth Leadership)

(This is a partially grant-funded position. Continuation will be dependent on funding, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)

Work Location: Department of 4-H Youth Development, LSU Ag Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Responsibilities: As a faculty member, the specialist is responsible for providing statewide leadership of the 4-H volunteer and youth leadership development programs. The specialist will take a systems approach in designing, implement, and evaluating a youth and volunteer development program that strategically positions the 4-H Youth Development Program for broader reach and enhanced engagement. The specialist will work with Extension colleagues, faculty, clientele groups, and others to identify volunteer development and educational program priorities. This specialist will provide leadership, implementation, and oversight to the volunteer development process for Louisiana 4-H Program including the maintenance, implementation, and evaluation of risk management policies and procedures including but not limited to child protection, driver authorization, and volunteer screening. The specialist will be responsible for the development, distribution, and evaluation of educational materials to enhance youth and adult leadership development at the club, parish, regional, and state levels. The specialist will serve as the State 4-H liaison and work in collaboration with the Louisiana 4-H Volunteer Leaders Association to design, implement, and evaluate shared volunteer staff development efforts. The specialist will support innovative professional development efforts, including but not limited to online trainings, and face to face training to enhance youth and adult volunteer leadership development and management. Candidates with their Ph.D. may have the opportunity to teach graduate courses and serve on graduate committees. The specialist will maintain a volunteer and youth recognition system and best practice suggestions for recognition (including regulations regarding recognition). The specialist will work with 4-H staff to seek and acquire external funding to support resources, staffing, and programs. The specialist will create annual written impact reports related to volunteerism and youth leadership in the Louisiana 4-H program and provide ongoing media stories. The specialist will perform other tasks that may be assigned by the department head, program leader, and/or the vice president and director of extension.

Qualification Requirements: An earned master’s degree required and doctorate preferred from an accredited university in adult education, youth development, nonprofit administration/volunteer development, social sciences, leadership, human resource education, community development, education, or related field is required. Five years professional experience leading an Extension 4-H program, community-based program or outreach program is preferred. The ability to critically review and utilize research findings to make data-driven decisions, document program impact, and develop best practices is desired. The candidate should be able to demonstrate success in designing, implementing, and evaluating learning experiences in educational settings that reach and are accessible to a wide range of audiences. The candidate must have the ability to teach and communicate ideas effectively verbally, in writing, and through educational technology to youth, adults, and professionals. Grant writing and establishing partnerships that leverage public and private funds in support of Extension’s mission is desired.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
