Job Description Summary

The Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences in the College of Agriculture at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist – Soil Health.  This position will be a twelve-month, tenure-track position with 25% research and 75% extension appointment.  The projected start date is May 2024.
 
Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an impactful research program with a focus on agronomic crop responses to soil fertility, soil conservation practices, and other soil management strategies.  
 
The successful candidate will provide leadership in soil management, soil health, and plant nutrition education and training of Extension Agents.  The responsibilities would include, but are not limited to, in-service training in the classroom and in the field, developing written, web-based, and social media distribution of information for producers and industry personnel.  The position will also be expected to provide on-site, and in-field diagnostics as requested and as related to problem solving.  The development of educational materials will be a major responsibility of the position and will include extension bulletin fact sheets, and web-based information for stakeholders.  

 

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in soil science or a similarly related field at the time employment begins. Candidates should be trained in soil fertility dynamics and nutrient management techniques. Documented evidence of individual and/or collaborative research in soil health resulting in peer-reviewed publications is required.  Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues across disciplines and develop collaborative research and extension programs.  The successful candidate must possess excellent written and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse audiences.  The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and to continue working legally for the term of employment.
