Position Description: The Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science Department in the Herbert College of Agriculture at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is searching for a lecturer to fill a 12-month position in the Environmental and Soil Science (ESS) program. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with the ESS program Faculty, program Director, and Professional Advisor to deliver coursework which will complement the comprehensive environmental science curriculum. The candidate should be willing to engage in innovative and interdisciplinary teaching, program development, and service activities. Specific duties and responsibilities will include:

Develop and teach courses within the ESS curriculum. Current areas of teaching needs are environmental science with an interest in: climatology/atmospheric sciences, GIS, environmental science methods, and professional development.

Maintain a strong commitment to departmental, institutional, and professional citizenship. This includes advising/mentoring student groups and participation in associated enrichment activities, and service on departmental, college, and professional committees.

Advance and promote the ESS curriculum while enhancing its enrollment.

Support expansion and evolution of the current curriculum.

Recruit and advise a diverse and high-quality group of undergraduate students, to grow and develop the program to be the State’s recognized leader in preparing students for careers in environmental science.

Support the development of a nationally recognized program through participation in national education organizations and competitions, publication or teaching and research contributions, and the incorporation of innovative methods, software, and equipment into existing facilities to accommodate instruction.

Create and sustain a culture that embraces, promotes, and prioritizes equity, diversity, and inclusiveness in the broadest meanings for all staff and students.

Qualifications: B.S. and M.S. in Environmental Science, Soil Science, Natural Resources, or closely related field for appointment at the rank of Lecturer. The candidate must have a proven track record or demonstrated promise of strong teaching skills in the classroom and laboratory. Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills is necessary.

Desired Qualifications: Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Soil Science, Natural Resources, or closely related field. Demonstrated experience in undergraduate program development or recruiting is desired.
