Position Summary:

The Educator will provide leadership, instruction and support for 4-H Youth Development programs focusing on youth development, adult volunteer development, youth education program development, expanding partnerships, and participation and membership growth. The Educator will provide assistance in university outreach where appropriate. The Associate Extension Educator member will plan, develop, implement, evaluate and report 4-H Youth Development programs (100%) with an emphasis on 4-H science and life skills programming.

Outreach & Extension:

Develop and enhance an effective, educational, results-oriented 4-H Youth Development Program that supports the growth and development of life skills among both youth and adult audiences. Work collectively with other Extension Faculty to develop, implement, evaluate and report impacts of non-credit educational programming in youth development for youth and adult audiences. Provide leadership for adult and youth volunteer programs including volunteer recruitment, selection, orientation, education and training, motivation, evaluation, recognition and support. Prepare volunteers to take on increasing leadership, management, and public education/information delivery roles in support of 4-H Youth Development programs. Develop and conduct effective educational programs that support the growth and development of life skills among both youth and adult audiences; train others to effectively deliver programming and to support the development of youth and adult participants. Work effectively as a member of the Northern District 4-H team providing leadership as appropriate. Actively participate with other district 4-H and Extension teams; share outreach models, lessons learned and best practices throughout the organization. Provide leadership and support for engaging stakeholders through various 4-H Youth Development advisory councils and committees in the work of identifying priority youth development needs, and addressing them through effective and innovative plans of work. Develop strong working relationship with local Extension staff, university staff, local schools, county departments, community leaders, agencies and institutions to enhance local youth development programming. Associate Extension Educator member will be expected to travel to conduct educational programs that may occur outside of typical office hours (evenings and weekends) to meet clientele needs.

University Service & Leadership:

Serve on University, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, Extension, district and community committees, boards and working groups as appropriate.

Scholarship & Creative Activities:

Secure external funding, recruit, and develop partnerships that support and enhance county and district educational programs and research projects, and publish results in appropriate scholarly outlets.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree related to education or youth development is required by date of hire.
Demonstrated ability to design innovative and effective educational programs in response to local needs; implement programs and evaluate their effectiveness.
Demonstrated experience working directly with youth and adult audiences and experience collaborating with community organizations to provide educational experiences to diverse youth audiences and others.
Demonstrated competency in people related skills such as teaching, problem solving, communication, conflict management, relationship building and leadership development.
Ability to work well in a team, provide effective leadership for Extension programming, and provide marketing and promotion of the 4-H program.
Ability to communicate (oral, written, listening, public speaking/presentation skills).
Ability to recruit, teach, and manage volunteers.
Computer literacy as demonstrated by the use of technology in programming.

Preferred Qualifications:

Extension experience in 4-H Youth Development, or applicable professional experience.
Knowledge of Latah county and the surrounding area.
Experience in fund raising, grantsmanship, and cost recovery efforts. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with mass media (TV, Internet, radio, newspapers).
