The Department of Crop and Soil Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University is pleased to announce recruitment for a tenure-track Assistant Professor & Extension Specialist with formal appointments in Research (20%) and Extension (80%).

This faculty position will provide outreach and research support for new and emerging crops in agricultural production systems across North Carolina. This position will address the needs of clientele by developing applied agronomic information for emerging crops absent of dedicated specialists at the University level. This would include, but is not limited to, biofuel grasses and oilseeds, clary sage, and hemp.

Applied research will be conducted within the Research Station system and on-farm as necessary to evaluate the various agronomic production practices including but not limited to variety selection, planting practices, soil fertility, plant nutrition, crop physiology, weed science, and seedling production (where appropriate). Information obtained from valid field trials will be incorporated into a visible Extension program that works closely with County Agents and existing Extension Programs in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences to facilitate county-based meetings as well as field demonstrations and other training events.

The candidate will be expected to work closely with faculty in other departments to assist in dissemination of integrated pest management strategies to growers and other clientele. Generation of extramural funding from multiple sources to support extension and applied research programs is required. The successful candidate will be expected to present data at state, regional and national symposia and meetings. Publication of applied research results in peer-reviewed journals is required. The successful candidate will advise graduate students, and serve on graduate student committees.
