Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
BS in horticulture or plant sciences with three or more years of plant science related experience. MS preferred. Must be able to travel and work after hours/weekends as needed. Must be able to lift 50 pounds safely.

Primary Purpose of Position
The recruit will work with specialty crops research projects in field, low tunnels and high tunnel settings. Extension/outreach activities will be assigned by the PI as needed, which include helping with field days and agent training, and presenting research results to growers. The initial contract period of this project will be through 9/30/22 and continuation is contingent upon future funding.

Through the expertise of specialists, associates and county-based agents, Extension is the outreach arm of the University and its College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. Our programs are developed here at the campus level and then delivered to people through our 101 Cooperative Extension centers across the state.

Key Responsibilities and Related Competencies
Required Competency Operations – Research Support
Specific research responsibilities include, but not limited to, high/low tunnel construction, field preparation, crop and high tunnel management, literature review, research data collection and processing, and draft technical research reports and manuscripts.
Analyzes the resulting data and reports them to principle investigator. This includes problem solving, if required, and revising experimental procedures accordingly.
Works on multiple projects simultaneously, manages time allocation, analyzes data, reports results to principle investigator and collaborating investigator. Is responsible for record keeping.
Participates in general laboratory maintenance, orders supplies and helps maintaining/stocking supplies, scheduling repair of equipment.
Required Competency Data Collection
Performs data collection and hands-on research procedures per study protocols.
Compiles and maintains data, organizes and prepares data for computer input.
Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
Prepares and stores or sends laboratory samples per study protocol.
Meets with study monitors and sponsors.
Generates data and presents information in narrative and graphical format at laboratory meetings.
Required Competency Laboratory/Subject Care
Maintains and manages lab/workshop stocks.
Helps with general lab/workshop ordering, lab/workshop management, and supervising lab/workshop safety.
Performs and assists with experiments that align with the lab’s overall research mission.
Generates laboratory and greenhouse data, interprets data using proper analytical procedures. Assists in the design/execution of experiments.
