Departmental Overview

The Natural Reserve System is a University-wide program. Each of its reserves is managed by one of the nine general UC campuses. The Systemwide Office of the NRS is based at the UC Office of the President. The NRS is part of the Research and Innovation unit of the division of Academic Affairs.

The incumbent will provide critical support for ongoing research projects. They will assist graduate students and faculty researchers to quantify and describe water storage dynamics in the Eel River watershed. This position will help to alleviate significant time constraints, as it will allow investigators to maximize time in the field during the brief field season.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct tree and water sample collection at Angelo Reserve.
  • Lab work: weigh soil samples, cryogenically extract water from samples, run samples in mass spectrometer.
  • Collate and enter data, communicate results to project collaborators.
  • Prepare and wash bottles for field work.
  • Other duties as needed (check supply levels, attend meetings, etc.)


Required Qualifications
  • Experience with data entry and MS Excel.
  • Prior field work experience (preferable in areas of hydrology and/or biogeochemistry)
  • Prior lab work experience- 1 year or more.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of collaborative projects.
  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and two years of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences and one year of laboratory experience, and/or an equivalent experience / training.


Salary & Benefits

This is a non-exempt, biweekly paid position. Hourly salary is $19.38.
