POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

(This is a partially grant-funded, non-tenure track position. Funding must be available for any continuation of appointment.)

 

Work Location: This announcement is for an associate/extension agent and regional coordinator NCH) position in the Southeast Region/LSU AgCenter. The position will be based in the East Baton Rouge Extension office in Baton Rouge, LA.

 

Position Description: The Southeast Region Associate/Extension Agent and Regional Coordinator (NCH) is charged with providing leadership for the Nutrition and Community Health programing in the assigned Southeast Region geographical area (16 parishes). The position reports administratively to the regional director. The regional director will conduct an annual evaluation of the coordinator considering input from program directors of SNAP-Ed, EFNEP and Flavors of Health. The coordinator is responsible for administratively supporting NCH agents (40% effort) in selecting and implementing program priorities; providing training for FOH, SNAP-Ed, and EFNEP agents and nutrition educators; and successfully implementing and evaluating effective and innovative programs that lead to measurable change in behavior in the Southeast Region. The coordinator will collaborate with parish chairs in their joint responsibility for evaluating the performance of NCH agents including making promotion and specialization recommendations to regional director and will be responsible for networking within community organizations and coordinate and conduct NCH advisory council meetings to strengthen parish programming. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading Healthy Communities and policy, system, and environmental (PSE) change efforts for EFNEP within the region. The agent will also supervise and provide ongoing training for EFNEP Nutrition Educators in East Baton Rouge Parish (60%). 

 

Qualification Requirements: Qualification Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in education, vocational education, family and consumer sciences/ human ecology, nutrition, food science, exercise science or closely related areas (must have grade point average of at 3.0). A Master's degree, PhD or nutrition specialization are preferred.  The applicant must have a minimum of five years of experience working in education, vocational education, family and consumer sciences/ human ecology, nutrition, food science, exercise science or a closely related field. Prior extension, FCS and/or nutrition education program experience is desired. The applicant must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills, function with minimum supervision, and be able to work with and through others. Experience in teaching and applying principles of leadership development to both youth and adults is desired as are knowledge of public relations and the ability to cope with change.  

 

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options. Conditions of Employment:  A personal automobile and appropriate insurance coverage is required (travel allowance provided). Satisfactory completion of one specific graduate level extension courses (3 credit hours) is generally required in the first two years of employment. Additionally, a faculty member who does not have a related master’s degree must complete an additional 9 hours of related graduate level coursework in order to be promoted to associate agent and such promotion must occur in the first seven years of employment. An exception is that additional agent experience may be substituted for nine hours of coursework, but not for the two required courses.
