Work Location: H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station, LSU AgCenter, Crowley, Louisiana
Position Description: The position will oversee field, greenhouse, and laboratory research activities examining ecology and integrated pest management of rice insects. The successful applicant will focus their efforts at the H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station, but some travel may be required to conduct off-station research plots. The applicant will be expected to work independently to design experiments, collect and analyze data, and publish and present results. Research activities include planting, maintaining, and harvesting rice research plots in addition to collecting and processing rice samples for insect injury and conducting insect biology assays in the greenhouse and laboratory. Weekly overnight travel may be required during the rice growing season (April – September). Applicants should be willing and able to perform physical work outdoors. The position will also supervise and instruct summer field assistants and facilitate graduate student research. Applicants should be willing and able to perform physical work outdoors.
Qualification Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in entomology, plant pest management, plant sciences, agronomy, or other agricultural curriculums or related discipline from an accredited college or university. Computer skills required. Experience working in agriculture research settings is desired. Applicants with a working knowledge of farming practices, including pesticide applications and the operation of farm machinery, are preferred. Applicants with experience researching plant-insect interactions, insecticides, and insect ecology are desired, but not required. Candidates with non-agricultural degrees may be considered depending on other experiences.
