(This is a grant funded non-tenure track position. Continuation of employment will be dependent on funding availability, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)
WORK LOCATION: This position will be housed at the LSU AgCenter Dean Lee Research, Extension, and Education Center in Alexandria, La. Collaborative work will also be conducted at other LSU AgCenter Research Stations which include: Northeast, Red River, Ben Hur, Rice, and other locations as necessary.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, planting, and executing field research trials in all field crops grown in central Louisiana. Responsibilities will include pesticide applications in test plots, maintenance of field plots, equipment calibration, data collection, and management of transient workers. Operation and maintenance of many different types of farm machinery specialized for planting, maintaining, and harvesting small plot research trials is required of the candidate. Additional responsibilities include data entry, analysis, interpretation, and presentation. The candidate also will be expected to maintain greenhouse facilities while executing greenhouse experiments. Laboratory responsibilities will include: storage and maintenance of bacterial and fungal cultures, conducting laboratory experiments involving microorganisms, equipment operation and maintenance. The candidate will also be responsible for helping maintain research plot records and the pesticide inventory.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The position requires a B.S. but M.S. or higher is perferred in plant pathology (preferred), agronomy, weed science, entomology, biological sciences, or a closely related field. Knowledge and skills in operating farm equipment, handling pesticides, using word-processing and data base management software is essential. Farming and/or field crop research experience is very desirable. Experience growing crop plants in a greenhouse setting is desirable. Experience with culturing microorganisms and basic laboratory procedures also is desirable. The successful candidate must have acceptable written and oral communication skills.
