The Department of Animal Sciences at Auburn University (www.auburn.edu) is seeking applications for a dynamic individual to serve in the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Meat Science. The position (40% instruction:60% Research) is a nine-month, tenure track position. Instructional needs will be based on current and future courses aimed at preparing students within the field of meat sciences as well as other departmental instructional needs based on the applicant’s area of expertise. The projected start date is August 1, 2022.
The individual will be expected to develop a competitive and nationally recognized, instructional and research program focused in the arena of Meat Science. The successful candidate will contribute to success of the animal sciences department through innovative instructional methods and research activities. The research program should focus on research supported by extramural funding in areas of post-harvest red meat production. The instructional program will consist of selected undergraduate course in meat science, and active graduate student recruitment and training. Furthermore, the candidate will be expected to enhance student experiences of "hands-on" learning through activities outside of the classroom focused on meat sciences in such activities as meat evaluation, academic quiz bowl, and/or meat industry study tours. The candidate will be expected to collaborate with existing faculty and staff within the College of Agriculture and Alabama Cooperative Extension System. In addition, it is expected that the candidate develops collaborative relationships with professional peers, and stakeholder and industry partners across state and regional boundaries as a visible national program is built and maintained. The successful candidate will be a member of the Department of Animal Sciences faculty and contribute extensively to expansion of applied learning experiences.
