Summary of Duties
The Teaching Assistant Professor will be responsible for leading and executing a vision for the AgTM curriculum. The incumbent will work closely and collaboratively with students, the agriculture industry, other stakeholders, and CSS faculty to evaluate and change the curriculum as pertinent agricultural technology industries advance. A critical aspect of this position is the ability to provide an inclusive environment for all students and collaborate with interdisciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
Specific teaching expectations include the delivery of 15 to 18 credits per academic year (9 months). Current subject matter areas include lecture and lab-based courses in precision agriculture, mobile power units, fluid and electrical power systems, irrigation and water management, and human and machinery risk management.
In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be responsible for student advising, club advising, and internship mentoring. A key strength of the AgTM program has been its close engagement with industry to ensure relevance of the curriculum, develop a robust pipeline for student placement, and generate external resources to support the program. The incumbent is expected to foster engagement with the industry and enhance student learning experience through developing relevant internship pipelines and career opportunities.
Opportunities exist to fund summer appointments with summer teaching and by integrating their expertise and the AgTM program into ongoing research and extension in precision/digital agriculture. WSUCAHNRS and CSS have a network of research farms increasingly focused on precision agriculture research and technology transfer/adoption. The AgTM program has played, and can continue to play, a major role in supporting and engaging in such efforts to integrate relevant technologies and undergraduate students into ongoing precision agriculture initiatives and projects.
As we grow and diversify the program with a precision/digital agriculture track, the incumbent will work with CSS to define the second faculty hire (2020, TBD) and then coordinate development of the augmented curriculum with existing faculty and the new hire.

Earned MS degree in Agriculture Technology, Agriculture Mechanization, Agriculture Engineering, or closely-related applied agriculture discipline at the time of hire with sufficient breadth to teach existing courses in the program, and evolve the program to meet the demands of modern agriculture systems;
Experience in teaching and the application of modern pedagogical techniques in applied agriculture technology and production management fields; and
A commitment to student success through active academic advising, career mentoring, and engagement with industry to ensure curriculum relevance and to develop career pipelines for graduates.
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work effectively with individuals and groups of diverse cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies;
Effective written, oral and interpersonal communication skills;
Demonstrated commitment to work collaboratively on curriculum development and delivery with relevant faculty members within and outside the home department (CSS) and colleges within the university system;
Demonstrated effectiveness in secondary agricultural mechanics and/or agricultural education teaching;
Demonstrated effectiveness in post-secondary curriculum development;
Prior experience in applied agricultural technology research and extension/outreach;
Prior experience in the applied agriculture industry;
PhD degree in Agriculture Technology, Agriculture Mechanization, Agriculture Engineering, or closely-related applied agriculture discipline at the time of hire.
