POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Work Location: LSU Agricultural Center, Tom H. Scott Research and Extension Center in Winnsboro, LA. The position is 70% research and 30% extension. The individual will be a faculty member of the LSU AgCenter Northeast Region. Opportunities for research and extension activities exist at three research stations in the Northeast Region.
Position Description: Full time, 12-month, tenure-track position with 70% research and 30% extension appointment. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a research/extension program with the goal of improving profitability of the major field crops produced in the Northeast Region of Louisiana. Research will focus primarily on evaluation of basic agronomic systems and management of field crops, as well as evaluation of relevant precision agriculture and irrigation technologies as applicable. Duties will include management and oversight of field trials, collection of data, and extension of results to stakeholders. Extension program responsibilities will include developing, coordinating, and conducting educational programs for agronomic field crops. Duties will include networking with county agents, consultants, agrichemical company representatives, and producers; presentations at field days, clientele-directed meetings and professional conferences; contributing to annual reports of official variety trials, and providing other outreach necessary to stakeholders of project activities and findings. The individual will collaborate with other faculty to complement existing agronomic and pest management research and extension programs in the Region. The position will be expected to publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, extension publications and contribute to commodity-based web sites, blogs and newsletters and other scientific and technical outlets. Extramural funding to support the research and extension program must be secured from federal and state agencies, commodity (state and national) research boards, and agro-industries. The successful candidate will work closely with the regional director as well as other research and extension faculty to ensure that his/her research and extension programs support the mission of the LSU AgCenter. Continued education development through association with professional societies and attendance at national and international conferences will be required. The position currently has a full-time grant-funded research associate position to support the project efforts. The successful candidate will be expected to manage personnel and equipment resources. Farm crew activities are directed by the Research Station Coordinators and the successful candidate will be expected to coordinate activities with these individuals.
Qualification Requirements: Ph.D. in Agronomy, Plant Science, Soil Science or other appropriate agriculture-related field is required. Experience in production of agronomic crops, precision agriculture, irrigation, soil fertility and plant nutrition is highly desirable. Good interpersonal skills and leadership abilities are required for working effectively with diverse professional and lay audiences and cooperators. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) with diverse audiences including scientific peers, clientele, and agribusiness representatives. Development of scholarly (peer-reviewed) articles and educational curricula/programs for appropriate publications/journals and other outlets, including LSU AgCenter numbered publications, is required for professional development.
Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
