Research Associate

(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position. Funding must be available for any continuation of appointment.)

WORK LOCATION: School of Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, La.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordination of field, greenhouse, and laboratory research related to weed management, weed biology, environmental fate of pesticides, and herbicide physiology as related to weed science in rice and other row crops. The applicant should be able to coordinate graduate students and train and supervise student employees. Duties will include design, establish, maintain, evaluate, and collect and analyze data from rice weed management research studies. Equipment operation and maintenance of farm machinery and herbicide application will be necessary. The applicant should be familiar with the development and presentation of extension related educational materials and seminars for County Agents and LSU AgCenter Clientele. Participation in professional and producer meetings is expected. Applicant is encouraged to pursue an advanced degree in Weed Science.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: B.S. or M.S. (preferred) in a plant science related field. Course work or experience in Agronomy/Weed Science and a strong background in row crop agriculture are preferred. Experience with water-seeded rice weed management in the mid-south is desired. Familiarity with the handling pesticides, field plot techniques, and knowledge of rice and row crop production agriculture, demonstration research, weed management, computer applications, and statistical methodology are desirable.
