The Department of Animal & Range Sciences at New Mexico State University announces an opening for an Assistant Professor in Equine Science. The Department seeks a broadly-trained Equine Scientist for a 9 month, full-time, tenure-track position. This position will be conducted in a classroom with face to face teaching but may be reassigned to online teaching at the directive of the university administration.
Appointment will be 100% teaching primarily undergraduate courses to support the animal science program and minor in equine science. Courses to be taught include but may not be limited to: introduction to horse science, management of equine operations, equine nutrition and exercise physiology, and horse production. The successful candidate in this position will also be expected to coach a competitive collegiate horse judging team annually and to assist with fund raising for the equine program. Due to the breadth of the course load assignment, experience in equine operations, reproductive technologies, immunology, exercise physiology, or equine nutrition are preferred.
A Doctor of Education EdD/Ph.D. in animal or veterinary science with an emphasis on equine science or another closely related field or Dr. of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) is required by the date of hire. Candidates with strong potential for, or an established record of effectiveness in teaching, and public service are sought.
