POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT 

Work Location: The LSU AgCenter’s Northwest Region serves 12 local parishes and three surrounding research stations, with the regional administrative offices being domiciled at Red River Research station in Bossier City/Parish, Louisiana.  

 

Position Description: The Northwest Region 4-H Regional Coordinator will provide leadership for the 4-H Youth Development program in the Northwest Region of Louisiana. In addition, the Regional Coordinator is expected to support program delivery of all 4-H Agents in the assigned Region.  The Regional Coordinator supports and encourages innovative youth development programs that lead to measurable life skill achievement.  

Programmatic administration includes working with agents in the assigned region, in program development, evaluation, advisory processes, volunteerism, impact reporting and 4-H programming centric goals inclusive of parish-based enrollment, enrichment opportunities, and participation in 4-H Camp and 4-H University.    

In addition, the coordinator is responsible for working with the parish chair to onboard and mentor of newly hired 4-H agents.  Regional 4-H Coordinators work with the other Regional Coordinators to provide professional development opportunities for all agents in the region, as well as conducting regularly scheduled professional development trainings for the 4-H Agents in the region.  The coordinator will collaborate with parish chairs and regional director, in their joint responsibility for evaluating performance of 4-H Agents including making promotion recommendations to the regional director.   

The Regional Coordinator will also be expected to collaborate with peer coordinators across the state as well as the state 4-H faculty for state-wide programming as applicable.  The position reports administratively to the Regional Director. The Regional Director will conduct an annual evaluation of the regional 4-H Coordinator considering input from the head of the 4-H Department and the LCES Associate Director of Youth Development. 

 

Qualification Requirements: A master's degree in education, vocational education, agricultural education, agricultural sciences, family and consumer sciences/ human ecology, biological or social sciences, recreation and leisure studies or closely related areas. Master's degree must have an overall grade-point average of at least 3.0. A PhD or youth development specialization is preferred. Applicants should have a minimum of 5 years of 4-H youth development experience and have reached terminal promotion rank (minimum of full agent). The applicant must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills. Experience in recruiting, training and supervising volunteers and experience i n teaching and applying principles of leadership development to both youth and adults is also desi red. Knowledge of public relations and the ability to cope with change are highly desirable characteristics. The ability to work with and through others is essential, as is the ability to function with minimum supervision. 

 

Conditions of Employment: A personal automobile and appropriate insurance coverage is required (travel allowance provided.  Satisfactory completion of two specific graduate level extension courses is generally required in the first two years of employment. 

 

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
