The Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment invites applications for a Lecturer in Animal and Food Sciences, Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering, or Horticulture which is a 12-month non-tenure eligible position in support of the James B. Beam Institute (JBBI) for Kentucky Spirits. The anticipated annual distribution of effort is 70% instruction, 25% activities in support of the undergraduate certificate in Distillation, Wine and Brewing Studies (DWBS), and 5% service to the college, university, and profession. The JBBI was established to engage in multidisciplinary research, education, and workforce development to elevate the Kentucky spirits industry. Integral to the mission is the construction of a 7,500 square foot operational distillery, equipped with analytic and teaching space, on our college’s campus. Having access to a state-of-the-art teaching and research distillery allows for novel approaches to hands-on training. The DWBS undergraduate certificate is one of the largest in the college and one of the largest in the university in terms of enrollment. This position will support the certificate through recruitment, advising, retention, and assessment. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2024.
Qualifications:
PhD or MS in Food Science, Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering, Horticulture, or similar is required. Preference will be given to candidates with college or university teaching experience. Qualifications include strong oral and written English communication skills; strong organizational skills; commitment to diverse, inclusive, high-quality undergraduate education and advising; and a strong commitment to student recruitment. The ability to work in collaborative, interdisciplinary, and cross-functional environments with other faculty, external stakeholders, as well as public, private, and governmental agencies is essential.
