POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Work Location: This position will be located on the LSU campus, Baton Rouge, LA.
Position Description: The LSU AgCenter is committed to assisting research faculty garner support from external funding sources to achieve the research mission of the organization. Reporting to the Director of the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station (LAES), the Coordinator of Research Support is responsible for supporting, promoting, and enhancing extramural grant funding for research conducted by faculty within the LSU AgCenter. This position will work to develop and maintain relationships with LSU AgCenter faculty, partnering institutions, private entities, and state and federal funding agencies to connect potential research funding opportunities to LSU AgCenter research goals and objectives.
Responsibilities include: (1) Assist with the acquisition of external research funding to support the various research units within the LAES; (2) Serve as a liaison to Louisiana commodity boards and organizations which provide substantial annual funding for a broad range of agricultural research projects; (3) Assist with tracking and reporting on large, high-impact grants to reduce administrative burden on research faculty; (4) Coordinate grantsmanship training and other support programs for LSU AgCenter research faculty; (5) Proactively identify significant grant opportunities which are multidisciplinary, strategic, and in alignment with the LSU AgCenter mission from federal, state, and private sources including agricultural industry companies; and (6) Provide general support for research programs within the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station at the direction of the Experiment Station Director.
Success with the above areas of focus will require: (a) Relationship cultivation with internal stakeholders, especially faculty members, regional directors, research station coordinators, and AgCenter administration; (b) Relationship cultivation with external stakeholders including producers, commodity boards and organizations, government officials, and industry representatives; and (c) Staying current with trends in agriculture including emerging research areas of climate smart agriculture, digital/precision agriculture, and sustainable agriculture.
Qualification Requirements: A bachelor’s degree plus 2 to 3 years of work experience related to the responsibilities of the position. Excellent communication skills, ability to manage multiple projects at once, and a high degree of professionalism are required. Previous experience in a university setting and completion or progress toward a graduate degree in an agricultural-related field is preferred.
Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
