A 24-month postdoctoral scholar position is available at the Gluck Equine Research Center, University of Kentucky, under the supervision of Dr. Amanda Adams. The successful applicant will engage in equine research investigating various aspects of immune responses and nutritional management of senior horses and horses with equine endocrine disorders of pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID), equine metabolic syndrome (EMS), and insulin dysregulation (ID).  The applicant will work with the herds of aged, PPID, EMS/ID horses that are maintained at the University of Kentucky.  The applicant will also be involved with field studies investigating various risk factors for equine endocrine disorders and laminitis. The applicant will conduct both basic and applied research.  Opportunities to combine applied research with cutting edge exploration using whole animal investigation (equine), cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISAs, and molecular biology research techniques will be offered. This position will also provide a unique opportunity to interact with and gain experiences with the WALTHAM™ Equine Studies Group led by Dr. Pat Harris MRCVS.

 

Preferred qualifications include enthusiasm, excellent communication and soft skills, professionalism, teamwork ethic, a strong academic record, as well as scientific rigor, and a desire to work at the interface of nutrition, endocrinology and the equine industry. Candidates must have a PhD degree in Veterinary Science, Equine Science, Animal Science or Biological Sciences.  Candidates with a DVM and PhD are desired.
