The Extension Agent is responsible for working with program advisory committees to identify local needs, to develop programs that respond to those needs, and to assess the impacts of the programs. This individual must be willing to maintain professional competence as an Extension Agent of the LSU AgCenter. The Extension Agent is expected to work collaboratively with other agents in the parishes and to perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor(s). Coordination and collaboration with other LSU AgCenter Extension faculty and SU AgCenter staff will be essential.

Satisfactory completion of a specific graduate level extension course (3 credit hours) is generally required in the first two years of employment. Additionally, a faculty member who does not have a related master’s degree must complete an additional 12 hours of related graduate level coursework to be promoted to associate agent and such promotion must occur in the first seven years of employment.
