(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position. Funding must be available for any continuation of appointment.)
WORK LOCATION: Department of Biological & Agricultural Engineering and the Aquatic Germplasm and Genetic Resources Center, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, LA.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Manage biological validation of microfabricated devices for cryopreservation of germplasm of aquatic species. Biological testing will include measures of sperm physiology, including motility and viability assays. Candidate should be able to operate in an interdisciplinary environment, interacting with biologists, engineers and machinists. Fabrication includes additive manufacturing (e.g., 3-D printing) and subtractive manufacturing (e.g. CNC milling or turning) as well as microfabrication (soft lithography). Manuscript preparation and student worker coordination are also necessary.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: PhD in Aquaculture, Fisheries, Engineering, or related scientific field. Applicant must have experience writing scientific manuscripts. Experience with cryopreservation of germplasm from aquatic species is preferred. Expertise in techniques including flow cytometry, computer-aided sperm analysis, 3-D printing, and custom instrumentation is desirable.
