Job Description Summary

The Department of Poultry Science in the College of Agriculture at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Professor – Poultry/Animal Behavior and Well-Being. This will be a nine-month tenure-track faculty position with 50% teaching and 50% research responsibilities. The projected start date is August 2026.
 
Responsibilities: The individual will be expected to develop a strong instructional and research program in poultry welfare in commercial production contexts with a focus on broiler chicken and layer chicken behavior, stress, and well-being. The incumbent will teach undergraduate-level foundational courses in introductory poultry science, broiler management and commercial layer production, and animal welfare, as well as a graduate-level course in applied poultry/animal behavior. Securing extramural funding to support research on broiler and/or layer behavior and well-being from USDA and other federal agencies, as well as from industry sponsors, will be expected. The candidate will be expected to collaborate with other scientists within, but not limited to, the Colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, as well as extension specialists/agents and poultry industry leaders, to conduct research on poultry behavior and welfare in commercial settings. Graduate student training will be expected.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include: 1) an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Poultry/Animal Science or related field at the time employment begins; 2) experience and training in research in the area of poultry/animal behavior and well-being; 3) demonstrated or potential ability to teach college-level courses and mentor undergraduate and graduate students and independently develop and conduct research in poultry welfare. The candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Postdoctoral experience or commercial poultry industry experience and evidence of extramural funding efforts are desired.
