Position Description: This 12-month tenure-track faculty position will provide expertise and leadership in applied research (70%) and undergraduate and graduate teaching (30%) in the areas of natural resource and agricultural production economics, with a strong focus on analytical and digital applications related to precision agriculture and/or natural resources. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in natural resource and agricultural production economics and is expected to have extensive knowledge of microeconomics and agribusiness with an ability to contribute to the undergraduate agribusiness program and the graduate program in agricultural economics. Duties will include the evaluation of relevant natural resource and agricultural production issues and enterprise analysis, publication of economic analyses in appropriate refereed and non-refereed outlets, and presentations to academic groups. Evidence of being a high quality post-secondary teacher-scholar and demonstrated willingness to collaborate within and across disciplines is expected. The vision is that a successful candidate for this position will leverage departmental and university resources in areas such as precision agriculture, econometrics and quantitative methods, data science, and artificial intelligence/machine learning, to study natural resource and agricultural production problems in a manner consistent with the mission of the Department and in a setting characterized by agricultural innovation, digitalization, and artificial intelligence. It is envisioned that this position will contribute to the development of the next generation of analysts in the area of natural resource and production economics. The incumbent is expected to employ cutting-edge techniques to develop a nationally recognized research program and disseminate knowledge to relevant clientele groups through multiple channels. Successful acquisition of extramural grant funds to support the research program of this position is expected. Teaching responsibilities will include instruction of one to two courses per year in the areas of quantitative methods, natural resource economics, and production economics, as well as student advising commensurate with the appointment. Participation in departmental and university committees and activities is expected. Cooperation should occur with personnel in the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station, Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service, Federal and State government agencies, and relevant commodity and clientele groups. Qualification Requirements: Minimum of a Ph.D. in agricultural economics or a related field with expertise in the area of natural resources and production economics. Effective oral communications, interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively with peers and diverse stakeholders are required. Ability to secure extramural funds to help support the research program is expected.
