Assistant Teaching Professor of Precision Agriculture
University of Missouri

Position Description: The University of Missouri is searching for a Professional-Track Assistant Teaching Professor to develop and teach courses related to Precision Agriculture. This is a non-tenure-track position with 100% teaching. The successful applicant will reside in the Division of Food Systems and Bioengineering and focus on teaching courses in the Agricultural Systems Management program. The position will be filled no later than August 1, 2020, as classes will begin on August 24, 2020.

About the Agricultural Systems Management Program: The Agricultural Systems Management (https://asm.missouri.edu/) is one of the teaching and research programs in the Division of Food Systems & Bioengineering (http://fsb.missouri.edu) at the University of Missouri. The Agricultural Systems Management program is distinguished in the application of emerging technologies to solve critical problems in modern agricultural production, including Precision Agriculture, Internet of Things, and digital measurement and control. The program blends the applications of physics, technology and physical systems with an emphasis on business systems and technology management. Faculty in the Agricultural Systems Management program work closely with colleagues of multiple disciplines in Food Sciences, Biological Engineering, and Chemical Engineering. The Agricultural Systems Management program currently has about 90 undergraduate students with nearly 100% job placement. The Agricultural Systems Management program is growing, with the goal to reach 150 students in the next four years.

Responsibilities: Teaching duties are in the Agricultural Systems Management program. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to identify and develop effective teaching strategies for both face-to-face and online learning. Teaching responsibilities will include courses that focus on precision agriculture and other Agricultural Systems Management courses while maintaining a focus on undergraduate mentoring. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in student-related extracurricular activities and relevant academic committees. The candidate must also be able to work in a multicultural setting and create an environment that fosters collegiality, diversity, and teamwork.

Minimum Qualifications: a PhD degree in Agricultural Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering or related fields, or an MS degree with prior teaching experience at the university level by the time of appointment.

Candidates will be Evaluated on: Prior teaching experience and working knowledge of Midwest US production agriculture. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are needed in order to facilitate both face-to-face and online teaching.

The Agriculture Systems Management program has had strong and growing interest from students, particularly in the precision agriculture topic area for which a certificate program was recently created. Faculty associated with the Agricultural Systems Management program make use of an excellent set of teaching facilities that were recently renovated with a million-dollar gift from ADM.
