The individual selected for this position will be part of a multidisciplinary research collaboration led by Dr. Tham Hoang to address environmental pollution problems and to support environmental resilience and sustainability.
This a 2 year limited-term appointment funded from external sources. Continuation of employment is contingent upon the availability of funds and individual performance in the position.
Essential Functions
Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist with chemical analysis in environmental samples
- Provide professional level research support; may engage in education, outreach, and services where opportunities are available
- Work with faculty and students across colleges with research involving chemical analysis
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisor
Minimum Educatin and Experience
- Research Associate requires a Master's degree; Research Fellow requires a PhDField of Study
- Chemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Toxicology, or closely related field
Minimum Skills and Abilities
- Technical experience using instrumentation like ICP-MS, GC-MS, HPLC, qPCR, FTIR-microscope, IC, or TOC analyzer, as well as analyte extraction and preparation for environmental matrices (soil, water, and/or air) to understand the fate and effects of pollutants in the environment
- Good laboratory practice, communication skills, and willingness to work with faculty and students at Auburn University
Desired Qualifications
Desired qualifications include the following:
- Experience in the analysis of organic pollutants and microplastics in environmental samples with different matrixes as well as common water quality parameters
- Familiar with standard analytical methods, such as EPA methods including QA/QC procedures
- Experience in instrument maintenance and troubleshooting as well as the organization of an analytical lab
- Publication in environmental chemistry work
